FAQ Number 30 Date Added 7/30/2008POWER ANTENNA & AMP REMOTE TURN ON WIRE EXTRA INFO If the new radio you are installing DOES NOT have an Amplifier Remote Turn on wire but only has a Power Antenna wire, this wire gives positive +12 volts DC out when the radio is turned on. This wire is used to trigger either an aftermarket amplifier, factory amplifier and or a power antenna on the vehicle.
Remember if your vehicle has a Power Antenna that goes up and down and you are listening to the radio while going through a car wash, the antenna mast on the car will be in the up position and can be broken. Remembering to always turn the radio off if your new radio only has a power antenna lead wire and your vehicle has a mast style power antenna before going through a car wash.
Some aftermarket radio Power Antenna wire’s have a dual function that will shut the power off to this wire when a CD is inserted or the CD function of the radio is activated, this would lower the power antenna mast and you would still be able to listen to CD music going through a car wash, but not while listening to a radio station. You can test this easily by listening to the radio, and if the antenna mast lowers when you insert a CD or press the CD function of the radio, you know your Power Antenna wire has this dual function.
If your vehicle does not have an amplified sound system, or a power antenna do not use the Blue or Blue w/White stripe wires from the aftermarket wire harness. Cap off or tape up these wires so they are unable to touch any metal surface or each other. |
