FAQ Number 32 Date Added 7/30/2008Q: What do I do with the illumination wire and, or dimmer wires on the aftermarket wiring harness I purchased? A: If your new radio HAS an Illumination or Dimmer wire, connect that wire from the new radio to the corresponding Illumination or Dimmer wire on the aftermarket wiring harness. Always refer to your new radio’s wiring schematic for correct wire colors and wire function.
Illumination wire / Dimmer wire-On most aftermarket vehicle radio wire harnesses, these wire colors are typically Orange and or Orange w/white stripe.
Illumination wire-This wire typically feeds positive +12DC volts to the aftermarket harness’s illumination wire when the parking lights of the vehicle are activated and will light up the face and or buttons of the new radio provided the new radio has an illumination wire and it is connected to this wire.
Dimmer wire- This wire typically feeds positive +12DC volts to the aftermarket harness’s Dimmer wire when the parking lights of the vehicle are activated, and allows you to control the brightness of light on the face and or buttons of the radio to be adjusted up or down using the dash light dimmer control knob inside the vehicle. |
